I’ve been doing some filming
for Teachers’ TV for a while now, and it’s
given me a chance to work with lots of different
teachers in lots of different schools. It’s
given me a fascinating insight into how television
is made. I hope it also gives you some new ideas
to use in your classroom.
I know that some teachers feel uneasy about Teachers’
TV as a way of delivering CPD, and I can understand
some of their concerns. Having watched quite a bit
of the programming myself, I have found it especially
useful to get an insight into what is going on in
all kinds of different classrooms. Let’s face
it, at least it shows the government taking an interest
in the profession, and it’s an excellent way
of raising the profile of teachers.
As with anything on the television, there is an
element of unreality about Teachers’ TV. Put
a couple of cameras and a handful of strangers into
any classroom, and obviously the students are going
to behave differently. Editing might make the programme
the right length, but it can mean you miss out on
some of the trickier or funnier moments captured
on film. Hopefully, though, you will be able to
find some useful and practical strategies in these
programmes. I hope you enjoy watching me, the teachers
and the kids in action!
