Positive Behaviour Management

During the day, Sue uses a combination of training slides, practical demonstrations and group activities to help staff examine, develop and improve their behaviour management skills. 

There are four sessions available, and Sue will adapt these to suit the particular needs of your organisation. For a half day or twilight booking, Sue recommends a combination of Sessions One and Three. 

Session One: ‘Positive Teaching Styles’: Getting the Basics Right; Effective Verbal and Non Verbal Communication; Key Techniques and Strategies

Session Two: ‘The Positive Classroom’: Creating a Positive Atmosphere; Making Rewards Work; Making Sanctions Work; Positive Use of Sanctions

Session Three: ‘The Positive Lesson: Positive Teaching Strategies; The Format of Lessons; The Content of Lessons; Engaging your Students; Devising Engaging Lessons

Session Four: ‘Staying Positive: When Things get Tough’: Why do Confrontations Arise?; How to Avoid Confrontation; How to Deal with Confrontation; Managing Stress; Q&A Time

Developing Thinking Skills

This course can be run as either a twilight (2 hour) or a half day option (two sessions).  During this course, Sue uses a combination of training slides, practical demonstrations and group activities to show staff how to develop students’ thinking skills.

During the course, Sue can cover some or all of the following topics:

  • Warm-ups for Thinking
  • The Thinking Teacher
  • Using Questions to Develop Thinking
  • The Creative Teacher
  • What is Creativity?
  • Developing Lateral Thinking
  • Using Scenarios to Develop Thinking Skills
  • Looking at Logic and Reasoning
  • Displays for Thinking

 

 

 

Voice Training

This course can be run as either a twilight (2 hour) or a half day option (two sessions).  During this course, Sue uses a combination of training slides, practical demonstrations and group activities.

Sue will help your staff understand how to use their voices more effectively, how to protect their voices from damage, and how to make better use of non verbal approaches.

During the course, Sue covers the following topics:

  • Effective Use of Your Voice
  • Vocal Warm-ups and Techniques
  • Voice and Classroom Management
  • Voice and Effective Learning
  • Non Verbal Communication
  • Taking Care of your Voice

This course is particularly beneficial for teachers new to the profession, and for any more experienced staff who find voice usage to be an issue.

Differentiation and Teaching Mixed Ability Groups

This course explores the skills needed to work effectively with mixed ability groups. This session can be run as either a twilight (2 hour) or a half day option (two sessions).  Sue uses a combination of training slides, practical demonstrations and group activities to help staff understand the techniques and how they can be utilised.

During the course, Sue covers the following topics:

  • Structuring Learning for Mixed Ability Groups
  • Why is Differentiation so Vital?
  • Ways of Differentiating Learning
  • Delivering the Learning to Mixed Ability Groups
  • Effective Approaches to Group Work
  • The Creative Curriculum: Considering Lesson Content
  • The Creative Curriculum: Devising Engaging Lessons

This course will be especially useful for schools introducing a 'Creative Curriculum' and teaching in a cross curricular way.
